JD Ragsdale is an excellent editor. I have reviewed numerous manuscripts for him, and he has served as editor for two of my submissions. What I want in an editor is someone who is communicative, who will read the reviewers' comments carefully and critically, and will offer specific reasons for the decision to the author. I have never seen JD fail to do this. When reviewer comments conflict, I've seen him offer guidance that shepherds the author through it. For this manuscript, the turnaround time was long, but he sent me an e-mail explaining why. Overall, my experiences at this journal set the bar for what I expect from an editor in the communication discipline.
