The editor-in-chief (Tamara Afifi) was very honest about her opinion and helpful. I emailed her after receiving the rejection decision and she named some journals that I should try. I think the reviewers are very professional and also honest in their opinion. They know the field/literature well.

Perhaps the best rejection I've ever received. One reviewer's comments were incredibly insightful and helpful--specific with sources and approaches. The other reviewer's comments were more vague but still constructive criticism. The editor (K. Miller) mostly deferred to what the reviewers said as the article was not in her area of research, but was still supportive of the paper's potential. All in all a great experience and I would definitely submit there again.

The editor refused to send out manuscript to reviewers, she said it was an instructional communication study and Communication Monographs would only consider interpersonal or organizational studies, not instructional. She said it was better suited for Communication Education - it was accepted at that journal. I think the editor had a very narrow view of what is appropriate for Communication Monographs.
